Four Kicks Capa Especial

Four Kicks Capa Especial is a cigar that was blended many years ago and never had its chance to shine until recently. Back in 2011, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo joined Jon Huber and Mike Conder of Crowned Heads to blend what was to be the original release of the Four Kicks brand. Three final blends were decided upon: two with Ecuadorian Habano wrappers and one with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The Habano execution made the cut to go on to become the original Crowned Heads that we all know and love today. However, Perez-Carrillo's choice, the Sumatra blend, was put on the back burner until nearly a decade later, when it would eventually be released as Four Kicks Capa Especial. This cigar, made in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Alianza, features a Dominican and Nicaraguan filler blend, Nicaraguan binder tobaccos, and a golden Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a staple in many of Perez-Carrillo's classic blends. As it turned out, Capa Especial would quickly earn a 93 rating and a spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 Cigars of 2020. A simple blue band paired with a golden foot band completes the simple packaging of Four Kicks Capa Especial. The wrapper leaf is rugged, toothy, and covered with thin veins, very reminiscent of the Cigar Boom classics of old that used this very same leaf. Plentiful smoke production brings about a rich, earthy flavor profile with notes of bread, nuts, and leather. Hints of cinnamon and white pepper become noticeable along the way, along with cream and sweetness on the finish. Medium-full-bodied, this blend is satisfying and easy on the palate. Made for more experienced smokers, this blend boasts many subtle complexities and intricacies throughout the flavor profile. A well-seasoned palate is necessary to fully enjoy all the cigar has to offer. This blend pairs well with scotch or a medium-bodied beer, though is versatile enough to pair with just about anything. In terms of comparable cigars, fans of classics like La Gloria Cubana Serie R or Punch will likely take a trip down memory lane with the classic flavor profile offered by the blend in question. Nearly ten years in the making, Four Kicks Capa Especial is finally here and deserves a spot in the humidor of any true connoisseur.
