Kristoff Ligero is a powerful line of cigars which uses twice the strong ligero tobacco as their normal line. A Dominican made beauty, the core of this cigar is Dominican and Honduran tobacco and a binder of Cuban-seed Dominican. The maduro wrapper is an almost black, striking Brazilian maduro leaf. An oily appearance greets the smoker at first glance and a strong cocoa and cedar aroma is present before the flame is ever introduced. While the Criollo of this line is closer to the full-bodied end of the spectrum, Kristoff Ligero Maduro is more in the middle of the medium-to-full-bodied scale. A dark brown band almost blends perfectly in with the hue of the wrapper leaf, and a secondary band lets the smoker know it is a maduro, if the dark color wasn't a first hint. Where the Criollo of this line had a spicy blast at first, the Maduro was a much more subtle first puff. The more we smoke, the more flavors and complexities come through. Strongly prevalent throughout this cigar were tastes of dark chocolate and espresso. The fantastic sweetness found in a Kristoff Ligero Maduro is a welcome change of pace from the Criollo version of this same cigar. Still present is the pepperiness, but it is overwhelmed with the cocoa and coffee overtones. Still much higher than a medium-bodied, Kristoff Ligero Maduro is the perfect cigar to enjoy with a dessert or an after dinner cordial. If spice is what you are looking for, the Ligero Criollo will be right up your alley or a Tatuaje Miami.
