Cusano 18

There are many cigars described as containing "extensively-aged" tobaccos when they are perhaps four or five years old, but the Cusano 18 cigar can make the claim better than most. As might be expected, the 18 in the title signifies how many years the filler has been resting, resulting in a taste profile both complex and sophisticated. Starting with the same base Dominican Oro and Seco filler, the Cusano 18 comes in two different varieties: the Double Connecticut mixes in some Ligero and Olor beneath the dual USA Shade wrapper and binder, while the Paired Maduro has added Brazilian Mata Fina cloaked in a San Vicente Olor binder and all of it finished by a darker and toothy Connecticut Broadleaf. (Shop other Cusano Cigars) Both cigar styles offer a pleasing aesthetic with the Shade-wrapped being a smooth and flawless golden stick exuding mild, earthy aromas and the Maduro a chocolate candy bar of pungent goodness. They both light and draw easily, the tobaccos having spent so much time together it seems they want to postpone the inevitable just a bit longer with a solid, long-lasting ash. The Connecticut starts out creamy with a flavor like butter on toast and builds into a medium-bodied experience with hints of black tea and almonds. The two well fermented leaves of the Maduro variety offer mocha and mild spices on top of leather and a touch of sweetness. All smokers will find something to appreciate in either Cusano 18, perhaps smoking the Double Connecticut with tea after an English breakfast or the Paired Maduro with coffee and dessert.
