601 La Bomba

After the success of cigars like 601, Mi Barrio, and Murcielago, many wondered what the future would hold for EO Brands. In early 2011, Eddie Ortega (the O in EO) announced plans for a new powerhouse cigar named, "La Bomba." While La Bomba debuted in late spring/early summer, early demand far exceeded supply and La Bomba has been difficult to get a hold of. Offered in four sizes, all with unique pigtails that look like wicks of dynamite, the 601 La Bomba is made at Jaime García's My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. (Shop all 601 Cigars) 601 La Bombas cigars are made alongside the rest of the EO Brands portfolio and award-winning cigars from My Father and Tatuaje. While the specifics of the blend have been kept under wraps by Erik Espinosa and Eddie Ortega, what we do know is that this is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro. This cigar is so full that they put warning labels on the boxes. It's somewhat remarkable that in addition to the massive pigtail (which measures over an inch long) the rollers are still able to finish a Pepín García triple cap on each La Bomba. This only shows off their skills with the oily Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. Flavor is generally earthy with accompanying notes of aged tobacco, cocoa, coffee, leather and pepper. What's surprising about the La Bomba is that despite the heavy dose of strength, the rest of the cigar is medium to medium-full in regards to body. For those looking for a Pepín pepper bomb, this isn't the cigar for you as it's more nuanced and complex than that. However, for those seeking the subtleties and smoothness you normally find in mild Dominicans with a heavy dose of Nicaraguan Ligero, 601 La Bomba is what the doctor ordered.
